In general:

- Mk1 (Mark 1) = A1

- Mk2 (Mark 2) = A2

- Mk3 (Mark 3) = A3

But "Mark" or "Mk" is also used to designate a body (vs. chassis) design.  
So in the Scirocco, there were Mk1 and Mk2 body styles on the A1 chassis.
